Holy Church of Panagia Faneromenis

This emblematic church dominates the historic centre of old Nicosia and is the largest Orthodox church within the Venetian walls. Its present imposing structure was built during the second half of the nineteenth century upon the remains of an ancient Byzantine women's monastery. In the church's courtyard lies the historic marble mausoleum that safeguards the relics of the Cypriot hierarchs who were executed by the Ottomans during the events of 1821.
