Holy Church of Panagia Theotokos

This important Byzantine church is located in the central square of occupied Trikomo and is one of the most significant religious monuments of the Famagusta district. Architecturally it belongs to the type of the cross-in-square domed church, which was extended in the 15th century with the addition of a second, Gothic aisle to the north. Inside it, valuable examples of wall paintings of the middle and late Byzantine period are preserved, with the imposing figure of the Pantocrator in the dome standing out. Owing to the Turkish occupation since 1974, the church has been converted into a cultural centre, remaining violently cut off from the worship needs of the displaced inhabitants.
