Holy Church of Saint Charalambos

This monumental, stone church is the central parish church of the occupied village of Kontea in the Famagusta district. It is an impressive three-aisled basilica, completed in the early 20th century, that stands out for its elaborate bell tower and the Gothic architectural elements in its windows. After the Turkish invasion of 1974, the church was looted and remained in ruins, but in recent years it underwent a full restoration by the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage, although the celebration of free sacraments remains impossible.
