Holy Church of Saint George

This imposing church is the central parish church of the village of Alona in the mountainous area of Pitsilia. It is a large, three-aisled and wooden-roofed basilica, built with the traditional dark local stone of Troodos that gives it a distinctive charm. In its interior are kept excellent relics and a precious icon of Saint George, which dates from the early 19th century. Owing to its central location and the unique mountainous atmosphere, the church is often chosen for the celebration of weddings and baptisms by residents and expatriates.
