Holy Church of Saint Georgios (Agios georgios rigatis)

This ancient monastic complex is built upon a gentle rise, about four kilometres north of the occupied community of Kyra in the Morphou district. The monastery was founded during the Byzantine period, before the time of Emperor Nikephoros Phokas, and is a historic dependency (metochi) of the Holy Sepulchre. Owing to the Turkish invasion of 1974 and the long abandonment, the church is today in a state of ruins, though it retains its great archaeological and spiritual importance.
