Holy Church of Saint Memnonas

This historic parish church is located on Trikoupi Street, in the eponymous occupied district of Agios Memnon to the south of the Municipality of Famagusta. It is the only church in the entire Orthodox world that is dedicated to this particular local Saint, having been erected based on the type of the single-aisled vaulted basilica with neoclassical and Gothic influences. After the events of the Turkish invasion of 1974, the church was trapped within the enclosed and militarized zone of Varosia, with entry being strictly forbidden. Today, the wounded structure remains silent and inaccessible for its displaced parishioners, being an emblematic symbol of the anticipation for return.
