Holy Church of Saint Nicholas of Stegis

This emblematic church is a UNESCO World Heritage Monument and the only surviving katholikon of a Byzantine monastery in Cyprus. Its name is due to the large, steep wooden roof with flat tiles that was added later for protection from the mountainous weather conditions. Its interior is an invaluable treasure, as it is entirely covered by wall paintings of exceptional artistry extending from the 11th to the 17th century.
