Holy Church of Saints Sergios and Vakchou

This historic church is the central church of the occupied community of Tavros on the Karpasia peninsula and is dedicated to the military Saints Sergios and Bacchos. It is a traditional stone edifice of the single-aisled basilica type, which for generations was the spiritual and social core for the village's inhabitants. Unfortunately, after the events of the Turkish invasion of 1974, the church was completely abandoned and its interior has suffered serious lootings, vandalisms and extensive wear by time. Today, the monument remains violently desecrated and inaccessible to the displaced Christian flock, standing as a silent witness of the cultural destruction in the area.
