Holy Monastery of Saint Nicholas of the Gaton

This is one of the most historic and oldest monastic complexes of Cyprus, which is inextricably connected with the Christian tradition of Saint Helen. According to legend, hundreds of cats were transported there for the extermination of the snakes that had flooded the peninsula after a prolonged period of deadly drought. The stone katholikon that survives today presents excellent architectural elements with impressive arches, while the place now functions as an active women's cenobitic monastery and is not made available for secular sacraments.
