Holy Monastery of Saint Panteleimon Acheras (Gynaikeia)

This historic women's cenobium is built on the slope of the mountain Kriatis and offers a panoramic view toward the plain of Morphou. The present vaulted church replaced an older wooden structure and hosts an impressive gilded iconostasis with rare wall paintings. In the past the monastery played an active role in critical national periods of the island, while today it offers a spiritual refuge to the visitors. The official festival of the monastery takes place every year at the end of July.
