Holy Monastery of Saint Spyridon

This historic monastic complex is closely connected with the life of Saint Spyridon, as it is built in ancient Tremithous where he served as bishop. The present church was built during the 18th century upon the ruins of three successive early Christian basilicas and hosted the sarcophagus where the remains of the miracle-working saint originally rested. Since 1974 the space is under Turkish occupation, remaining inaccessible for Christian worship owing to its conversion into an active military zone.
