Laxevto Chapel of Saint John the Forerunner

The small rock-hewn chapel of Saint John the Forerunner is a unique ascetic monument in the mountainous area of Tala, inextricably connected with the Monastery of Saint Neophytos. According to the religious sources, Saint Neophytos himself carved this cave little church into the natural rock during the twelfth century. The site functioned as an isolated refuge of prayer and stillness (hesychasm), preserving to this day its authentic, contemplative atmosphere.
