Panagia of Valana

This church is built upon a lush green rise to the north-west of the community, on the spot where the historic monastery of Valana formerly flourished. The present structure was erected upon the foundations of the old katholikon, while at a very short distance a second, smaller church was recently created. Inside the original structure the historic trapdoor is preserved where, according to local tradition, the famous miraculous icon of the Theotokos was discovered together with other holy vessels.
