Saint George Avion

The history of this site, which is located south of the village in the area of Avia, begins around the 16th century. At that time, Greek-Albanian soldiers who were driven out of the Peloponnese settled there as refugees and erected a small stone-built chapel. That original historic structure was demolished in 2003, and in its place was raised the present, much larger and modern church, which fully serves the religious needs of the adjacent refugee settlement of Avgorou.
