Saint George (Koimitiriou aglantzias)

This is a historic, single-aisled vaulted church that is located in the space of the old cemetery in Aglantzia of Nicosia. Its erection was completed at the end of the 18th century thanks to a donation of the dragoman Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios, replacing an older structure of the Frankish period. In its interior survives a precious wood-carved iconostasis with beautiful floral decoration. Owing to its location within the cemetery, the church serves mainly needs of the community and ceremonies rather than joyous social sacraments.
