Saint George

The chapel of Saint George is a religious ornament of the community of Alethriko. It is a plain, single-space church in the style of a vaulted basilica, which bears a traditional tiled roof and two main entrances on its western and southern sides. The structure is externally supported by sturdy buttresses, while its door frames stand out for their relief decoration. In its interior, the light diffuses softly through a single window and small openings in the walls, highlighting the simple wooden iconostasis with the modern icons. Although the exact date of its foundation remains unknown, the church was fully restored in the early 1990s. Today, the little church operates during Renewal Week (Bright Monday), as well as during the two annual feasts of Saint George, on the 23rd of April and the 3rd of November, being a serene space of worship in the Cypriot countryside.
