Saint Sozomenos

This remarkable church is located in the old core of the community of Galata in the Solea valley. It is a single-aisled wooden-roofed structure with a characteristic projecting roof that forms a portico in the shape of "Pi," while it was built and decorated at the expense of fourteen fellow villagers whose names are inscribed in a founder's inscription. Its interior is fully covered with wall paintings of excellent quality by the well-known painter Symeon Axentis that are preserved in very good condition. Owing to its great archaeological and historical value, the church functions mainly as a protected religious sight and is not available for the celebration of social sacraments.
