Timios the Forerunner

This small little church is located at a short distance from the Monastery of Panagia the Stazousa and has a very particular history, as it remained buried for three centuries owing to a landslide. Its revelation happened by chance after a fire, when the locals noticed an oleander sprouting at the spot, attesting to the existence of water. Digging to find the spring, they brought to light the ancient holy spring as well as the buried church. Today, the single-aisled stone structure with the elegant dome is a hidden religious treasure of the area.
