Vyzantini Church

This church of Saint George is located protected in the interior of the historic castle of occupied Kyrenia and was originally built as a military chapel of the Byzantine garrison. It is the only example of a four-columned church on the island, as its vaulted roof rests on four ancient marble columns with Corinthian capitals from an older basilica. After the Turkish invasion of 1974, the church was incorporated into the wider museum space of the fortress and remains inactive for the carrying out of Christian services and sacraments.
